INSULATION COMPARISON

Readily winter-warm

Warmth and lack of draught in a house improves its livability and lessen the energy costs. CONUS can cut the owner's heating costs by a third or even a half. A special measure, U-value is used to tell how much warmth a wall lets through. The smaller the figure is, the smaller is the proportion of warmth wasted. The walls of CONUS Thermo log houses have 170 mm of thermal insulation inside. The U -value of these kinds of walls are excellent: 0,22 W/m2K for 170 mm insulation. CONUS Thermo log homes are fully suitable for use as year-round residences without additional insulation. Besides, CONUS reach rapidly the room temperature even if the house had been unheated in winter conditions as is often the case with vacation homes.

U = 0,21 W/m2K U = 0,60 W/m2K U = 0,21 W/m2K U = 0,74 -1,22 W/m2K

The wall from insulated log ( Thermo log ) is 3 times warmer than brick wall of the same thickness.
For the illustration: brick wall of 440 mm thickness with systematic use of parget has U = 0,23 W/m2K.

Furthermore, using Thermo log walls, we can get by the same build-up area in 1 room with outter walls, in comparison to masonry technologies, significant enlargement of ground-plan of the building - of 0,4 m in both length and width ( 2 times the brick wall thickness 0,45 - 2 times Thermo log wall thickness 0,25 = 0,9 - 0,5 = 0,4 m ). That makes significant space when considering the entire house area, for example for a room 5 m x 4 m, the area gain is as far as 17,2%. It's one of interesting construction parametres of these technologies and it can influence the investor's point of view when calculating the price of 1 m2build-up area in order to make decision about the choice of construction technology. This gain of area for example covers almost all costs of VAT!

U = 0,12 W/m2K   U = 0,17 W/m2K

INSULATION TYPES

We can confirm that in our Thermo log wall constructions, as well as in other types of massive and supplementary insulation, we can use all types of common or required heat or sound insulations.

As each wall construction ( together we about 100 of them ) requires according to requirements of investor, type of construction or health conditions different combinations of insulations and steam protection, there can be different use of insulations in the walls.

So far the type we have used the most was Rockwool or Isover. It’s possible to use all types of blown or similar insulation but we don’t use them by Thermo log constructions as these are produced in manufactory as whole.

After revision of market requirements and anticipated health development of world population in future decades in cooperation with universities we chose the use of heat insulation VITAL which is the most ecological, wood-close and healthiest insulation that is known to us.

LogoVital

The heat insulation VITAL made of wood fibres can be installed to Thermo Log walls directly in the Kemi manufactory. VITAL has been developed in the town of Kemi in cooperation with local university. VITAL is excellent heat insulation, completely white, very comfortable on touch and for human skin. It looks like celulosis or cotton that is well known to us from the use in household or medicine. It’s supplied in panels or bales as other well-known heat insulations as for example Rockwool, Isover, Nobasil etc.

Our wooden wall construction Thermo log in combination with heat insulation VITAL made of wooden fibers is the only construction awarded by people suffering of allergies an asthma. The insulations of wooden fibers possess also following characteristics:

• They secure the “breathing” of wall constructions
• It’s excellent installation material
• They’re completely ecologic and recyclable
• They secure very good and healthy air condition inside the building
• The air condition in our constructions is so far the only suitable construction type that is recommended and certified
   for people suffering of allergies and asthma by the Association for Asthma and Allergies
• The description and detailed characteristics are mentioned in the article Why VITAL insulation?
